Day 25 (28th March) Wudang Day 2

We have to assemble at 7am to eat breakfast and around 7.30 we set off to climb the 金顶! We were given 4 hours to complete it. 2 hours to climb up and 2 hours to climb down. The journey up was a long one. At first we set off altogether. After 30 minutes, all of us were scattered as we have different pace. So jean, yanting and me climb together. On the way up, there were many people offering services to carry us up the jin ding. Mostly are aged around 60 to 70 years old. The service costs about 800rmb which is quite expensive. It is really a tough job especially at their age. I can see all their veins popping out from their hands and legs. It is already quite tiring for some of us to climb up not to mention them who are much older. They were panting and sweating profusely even though the temperature is quite cooling.

Magnificent view outside the hotel

Ready to set off!

It cost about 60rmb for a short journey of about 5-10 minutes!

This man is impressive! He could even carry a load up when it is already very tiring to climb up empty handed.

The babies/toddler here wear pants with a slit in the middle.

Jean tired the service. It must be fun ride i guess.

We're just 0.3km away!!

Finally after 2 hours, we reached the entrance to the submit! We were the 2nd group to reach the together with cynthia. Some guys from ECE were the first group to reach. Soon the tour guide reached and she purchased the ticket so we can go up the jin ding. The view from the top is simply magnificent! They sell 平安锁, 连心锁 and family lock which is to be locked up there for well blessing.

金顶 shining so brightly.

All members from Group E completed the whole journey!

View from the top.

This women was rubbing her ATM card against it! It was believed that one will have good fortune by rubbing money against it. But what the women was doing was too over!

After that, we had to get down already as we had to report at 1.30pm and depart for lunch. However, we only had our lunch at 4 plus as some of the students from our MDE group reached the foot of the mountain at 3 plus. The teachers from MDE and china, tour guide and bus driver were unhappy about it as they had to rearrange with the restaurant the timing for our lunch. Also, the bus is charged hourly, therefore the amount incurred increases with the number of hours and the driver had to check in the bus before 11pm. We reached the campus at 9 plus and we packed our dinner back to the hostel.

Reflection:
The journey up to the copper house is awesome! It has been weeks since I last exercise. Did not regret the decision to climb up the mountain and the journey is not as tough as we thought. Although it may be tiring, I find it worthwhile to spend the time and energy climbing the mountain as the view from the summit is simply magnificent! Perseverance is what we need to complete the journey. It applies to everything we do and we should never give up easily. Even though this may not be the highest mountain in the world, I still had a sense of achievement and satisfaction when I reach the summit. I find the people offering services up the mountain hold a really tough job. It’s already so tiring climbing up the mountain empty-handed what’s more having to carry people up the mountain. Perhaps they are really desperate for money and do that as a living. Or else, this is a job that nobody would want to hold.
